As part ot the Krome Avenue expansion from 2 to 4 lanes, a dedicated multi-use path is being added. Starting at SW 8th St. (US 41, Tamiami Trail) and SR 997 (Krome Ave.), the section completed to date runs south along SR 997 for 8.5 miles to SW 136th St. Here it crosses over to the west side of SR 997, with construction underway southbound to SW 232nd St (scheduled for completion April 2020). Eventually the path will extend to SW 296th St. While not a recreational biking destination, this is a good example for transportation planners - adding dedicated pedestrian and biking paths to road improvement projects. An easy ride, but little shade. The 10-foot wide path is separated from the roadway by a wide median - a plus. We saw many road bikers using the completed path north of SW136th St. - it's flat and straight with just one road crossing at Kendall Drive (SW 88th St.).
As the route is extended south, it enters a busier area with more driveways and road crossings to navigate.
