The Auburndale-TECO Trail runs 6.5 miles from the Auburndale South Trailhead at Denton Avenue to the Van Fleet State Trail's Polk City Trailhead. Flat and straight, but keep aware - open vistas and fewer people make this a nice extension for faster road bike, too. Fitness stations are located along the trail, which also passes Auburndale's Lake Myrtle Sports Park. Much of the trail is along power lines with little or no shade, so be prepared with sunscreen and water. (Detailed map and photos below.)
Bike Map... Auburndale/TECO Trail
Location: Polk County
End Points: Auburndale to Polk City (Van Fleet State Trail)
Mileage: 6.5 miles
Nearby points of interest: Fantasy of Flight, Water Ski Museum and Hall of Fame, Legoland
Starting from the Auburndale Trailhead (parking, restrooms), the trail is away from the road, running north through a partially shaded area until passing Lake Myrtle Sports Park. Shortly past the Park, the trail starts to follow TECO Energy power lines, less shaded depending on time of day. At C. Fred Jones Blvd. it goes roadside along Berkley Road (though set back with a wide buffer), mostly unshaded. Crossing Daniels Way and still along the power line it enters the most shady section, leading to the Polk City trailhead (parking, restrooms, picnic) - though roadside, trees line the buffer.
