We were wow'ed by the southernmost portion of this St. Petersburg trail. Starting at Demens Landing Park (across from the start of the Pinellas Trail), we biked along the Tampa Bay waterfront through the marina district and past beaches. We continued past the Snell Isle Bridge through the Historic Old Northeast neighborhood with its stately old homes. There are 8 parks along the trail, providing ample parking. (Reported: Feb. 2018)
End Points: Demens Landing (1st
Ave. S. and Bay Shore Dr. S.E) to Riviera Bay Park (81st Ave. NE and Macoma Dr. NE).
Mileage: 6.5 miles
Location: Pinellas County (St. Petersburg) (See map)
Nearby points of interest: St. Petersburg Museum of History, Museum of Fine Arts, North Shore Aquatic Complex
The best section runs from Demens Landing to Coffee Pot Park, about 3 miles with water views. Past this point the trail leaves the waterfront and runs alongside 1st St. North, past homes, schools, and businesses. Past 78th St. the trail runs for two blocks as a sharrow on 1st St. North until crossing a bridge over a canal, then resumes as a trail to Riviera Bay Park. On the southernmost section especially, you will encounter many walkers and runners who have the right-of-way.
