Halifax River Trail is a riverside path from Ormond Beach through Holly Hill to Daytona Beach. Starting from Cassens Park at W. Granada St. (SR 40), it runs south about 4.5 miles along S. Beach St. and Riverside Drive to Daytona Beach city limits where it meets and continues as the Sweetheart Trail. The well-maintained path is a pleasant ride with scenic river views and several parks. Benches also are provided along the way. The road, mostly residential, is not busy and there are no crossings on the trail side other than park entrances and a few residential driveways until approaching Daytona Beach. The trail, part of both the St. Johns River-to-Sea Loop and East Coast Greenway (Maine to Key West), is perfect for recreational riders - long-distance bikers may prefer riding in the road. From SR 40 at Cassens Park (parking, restrooms, picnic, boat ramp, fishing pier), the trail (also called the S. Beach Street Riverwalk) runs alongside S. Beach St. passing Ames Park (parking, restrooms, picnic, fishing pier), and Riviera Park (parking, restrooms, picnic, playground, fishing pier) where it enters Holly Hill city limits.
In Holly Hill, the trail (also called the Pat Northey Greenway Trail) continues alongside the road - now Riverside Drive. In this section, Sunrise Park - situated on a point once intended as a housing development - provides parking, restrooms, picnic, playground, boat ramp and 3 fishing piers. At Ross Point Picnic Area are parking, restrooms, picnic, playground, and fishing pier but it has a long history - once called Palmetto Point, it's the location of Holly Hill's first post office (1868). Past Ross Point, the trail moves away from the river, ending at the Daytona Beach city limits at Sickler Drive (where the Sweetheart Trail starts).
